I feel like the best thing that can happen for America right now is for Donald Trump to lose the 2020 election by such a wide margin that it doesn't matter how he reacts, and he has literally no other option but to just slink away and never come back.
The second best is removal by the Senate, a caretaker Pence administration limping through the last year, and the GOP being unable to field a cogent candidate for 2020. But even that risks a violent "stab in the back" response from the MAGA cult. It's also not going to happen.
Total electoral defeat gives the MAGA cult no legs to stand on, no teeth to their grievances. When the entire country rejects your movement, your movement is dead. Anything less than that keeps their fires burning, at least a little.
