The global toll of air pollution is almost unfathomable, unless you regularly spend time with global health statistics: 4.2 million premature deaths per year. If I were writing this in New Delhi rather than Madison, I’d probably be having an asthma attack right now. 
These deaths—of humans every bit as real and precious as your own parents and children—should be treated as an emergency. US policy should drive towards reducing this burden. Instead, Trump has put us on course to withdraw from Paris climate accord the day after 2020’s election.
The US should be, at home and abroad, a force for good. For survival, for thriving. Not for toxicity and death in order to enrich pollutocrats. Trump has put us on the wrong side of a global struggle between life and death. It’s on the rest of us to set it right.
