Adam Schiff is not pulling any punches. The House Intel Committee Report gets straight to the point in its opening paragraphs. intelligence.house.gov/report/
The Preface notes: "This report reflects the evidence gathered THUS FAR by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence." The Ukraine bribery scheme is so new there could be more to learn as well as new witnesses to hear from as the courts enforce subpoenas.
Stop being Trump-numb for long enough to let the reality of this sink in: "the impeachment inquiry has found that...Trump, personally & acting through agents within & outside of the US gov't, solicited the interference of a foreign government, Ukraine, to benefit his reelection."
"The President placed his own personal and political interests above the national interests of the United States, sought to undermine the integrity of the U.S. presidential election process, and endangered U.S. national security."
Trump's lawlessness-no accommodation or at least a move to quash subpoenas in court, he simply ignored them-is a smack in the face to the rule of law: "The WH, Dept of State, Dept of Defense, OMB, & Dept of Energy refused to produce a single document in response to our subpoenas"
This is how Schiff forms the question impeachment hearings must answer & it's masterful. Impeach or just get over the use of the power of the presidency to cheat at an election?
Why is Bolton always encouraging others to report Trump's wrongs but never doing it himself? Such a pattern.
Had Ambassador Taylor not sent this text & had it not become public, this inquiry could have stalled. It was a brave thing to do. “As I said on the phone, I think it’s crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign.” He made what Trump was up to plain.
The IG got the Whistleblower complaint on 8/12. Congress didn't get notice from him until 9/9. Somewhere in that timeline, with Trump on notice of the complaint, DOJ declined to open an investigation. To be clear - not to bring an indictment. Barr decided not to even open a case.
Trump's obstruction of Congress incl'd 12 witnesses prevented from testifying (10 defied subpoenas) &
witness intimidation of Yovanovich, Taylor, Vindman & Williams. Exec branch agencies ignored subpoenas for documents. If Trump isn't impeached, presidents are above the law.
Good luck to Trump in his efforts to distance himself from Rudy Giuliani.
If Rudy goes under the bus, Trump is going with him.
For those who've questioned impeaching now while evidence is still unfolding, Schiff has a response: "This repeated & pervasive threat to our democratic electoral process added urgency to our work." Trump is cheating to win in 2020. Schiff felt the country couldn't afford to wait
