This Stanford study shows that high school students find it hard to distinguish between ads/paid content and real news.

Thing is, these kids don't use "news" sites. They use Instagram and TikTok where most of the content is intentionally fantasy.

On the big national/global issues, they accept what their online tribe tells them is true/false.

It makes it easier to fit in.
Also, the premise of the Stanford study is dated.

Digital natives don't process or verify information in the same way literary minds do.

It's not a solo activity.

It's done collectively, as a group. The group passes judgement on it.
The danger of a group/tribal information verification/approval process is that it is very vulnerable to capture by tribal narratives.

Info that fits the tribal narrative gets a pass, info/sources that don't get insta banned.
