The science of cancer treatment is such that getting a high cure rate means getting a substantial complication rate.

The complications can be highly damaging to the quality of life and frequently fatal.

It is of course anecdotal, but most of the people I know who have submitted to cancer treatment have lived less long than their original prognosis.

I did know one woman who lived a long life having her breast cancer cured. Her lungs were fried by having an excessive dose of radiation and she had to take antibiotics for life to prevent lung infections.

I worked with one man who got a slow burning blood cancer at the age of 54 and who, against medical advise, demanded aggressive chemotherapy. He was dead within 2 weeks.

My father was told in June '94 he would be dead by Xmas if he didn't have treatment for liver cancer. He already had<10% liver function He died in October.
