“Hillary,” a documentary by Academy Award nominee Nanette Burstein tracking Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, will make its world premiere next month.

What made 2016 so traumatic was it was perfect until the final minutes when there was a sudden plot twist.
It wasn't supposed to end like it did. To this day there must be a quality of unreality about it for those who stretched out their hands to triumph that night.

The West's response to hard line policies toward Islam from Burma, China and India doesn't really answer the question of how a clash of civilizations can be managed beyond an exhortation to tolerance.
These are ancient grievances which it was assumed would fade away in our new multicultural global world. But it did not work out that way and that has left conventional wisdom at a loss for a Plan B.
We were so sure the We Are the World strategy would work nobody really had a contingency plan for failure.

Socialism was designed to deal with the simple hierarchies of the industrial age, a world of 2 parties, 3 networks, 2 sides of a political spectrum. The increase in complexity overwhelmed its capacity to react. The market on the other hand could adapt.
Once the networked world got going, where any two arbitrary points could transact, the existing institutions suddenly faced a severe challenge. When the elites pushed for a global world they were unwittingly creating an existential crisis for themselves.
All the 5 year plans and elite-derived grand visions faced instant obsolescence under the impact of latent variables and stochastic perturbations that are inherent in any complex system.

@washingtonpost @AmericanTheatre @kencen Of course, Mo Willems' @kencen musical is already almost sold out, so why does getting a review matter? I think famed British theater critic Lyn Gardner explained it best in her essay for The Guardian in 2013 (see photo).

For example, when MATILDA opened on Broadway, WaPo made sure to send Peter Marks, its chief drama critic (and 4 time member of the Pulitzer Prize drama jury), up to see it.
