I grew up in one of those central PA counties where Trump won 70/30. As I read the situation there, the 2020 election will not turn on flipping those rural Trump voters, but on driving up youth, POC, urban, and suburban turnout.
I suspect most Trump voters in central PA will stick with their guy just as they did with Joe Paterno. To the bitter end.
Another tip to any NYTimes journalist who puts on the pith helmet and heads to central PA. Ask about Mike Tomlin. While the national media is touting him as Coach of the Year, many Steeler fans in central PA hate the guy. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.
I’ve seen much anti-Tomlin bile in my FB feed from old high school acquaintances. Perhaps coincidental, but all of the Tomlin haters were also Trump fans, or at least Clinton-haters.
