So in 2021 when President Biden asks President Zelensky to "do him a favor" by starting an investigation into Giuliani, Sondland, Perry, Barr, and Trump's corruption in Ukraine, the Republicans are going to be totally cool with that, right?
And then in 2023 when Don Jr announces he's entering the GOP primary, the GOP will be totally cool with President Biden asking India to "do us a favor" by announcing that they're looking into Jr's corrupt activities in India? propublica.org/article/trump-…
And in 2022 when Ivanka announces they're going to challenge Chuck Schumer for his seat in the Senate, Lindsey Graham will have no problem with President Biden standing on the WH lawn and asking China to investigate Ivanka's trademark deals, right? washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pac…
Or if Jared decides to run instead of Ivanka, Jim Jordan will give his full support to President Biden when he asks Saudi Arabia to start looking into Jared's financial ties to that nation during his time working in the WH? nytimes.com/2018/12/08/wor…
Here's the point. It would be inappropriate for Biden to do what Trump has done, & I'm fairly certain he wouldn't do it. And that's what these Republicans always count on--that they can cheat the rules to win because they know the Dems are "too chicken" to go as low as they will.
It’s behavior like this that begins the downward spiral into autocracy and away from the rule of law. Sure, it might give you an electoral victory now, but at what cost?
The GOP is willing to risk the rule of law because they know their brand has been so sullied by Trump that their electoral future is bleak. If asked to choose between constitutional democracy and power, they will choose power at any cost.
Instead of meaningfully reaching out to young voters, or people of color, or LGBTQ voters, or any of the demographics from whom they currently get less than 25% of the vote...they're just doubling down on gerrymandering, voter suppression, and Russian-made disinformation.
