We had representation at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust governors' meeting today. Much of interest was covered. We asked questions. Full report later.
I'll skip the stuff that's not relevant to our cause (e.g. 100th anniversary celebrations, progress at their school, budget report, etc. etc.)
Highlights of the CEO's report:
There is a GIDs improvement plan being implemented.
Focus on: (a) Safeguarding, (b) Consent at the endocrine clinic, (c) Documenting the outcome of assessment.
What do you see from these?
It seems as if they are working to ensure their collective backside is covered. Or looking at it another way: "about bloody time". They know they are not properly safeguarding our kids, that there cannot be true 'informed consent', and they need an audit trail to justify actions.
The CEO noted that the recent coverage of detransitioners was 'more balanced' than other coverage of late (take a bow @DetransAdNet ).
@DetransAdNet However, when commenting on recent #Newsnight coverage he said that @Maitlis "did not distinguish herself".

We beg to differ, we think she made a very good start!
@DetransAdNet @maitlis He then went on to talk about the research that is required (yes, research into why ROGD is a thing and girls are disproportionately affected). Who would do it? Who would fund it? This prompted interesting input from other governors...
@DetransAdNet @maitlis Governor John Carrier mentioned an exemplar study (Elizabeth Bott) that demonstrated that research into outcomes could be done well and quickly, even with a small sample size, if a similar approach could be taken.
@DetransAdNet @maitlis Governor Juliet Singer spoke up well to point out that research was needed and that 'we don't know' is not good enough.
"We have to understand this better" - follow-up, comorbidities, trauma, we need to know more. (we liked this contribution - a lot!)
@DetransAdNet @maitlis The GIDs review and new procedures will be published sometime in the Spring. We shall make enquiries as to whether we can be involved before publication.
@DetransAdNet @maitlis The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust is introducing new and improved 'freedom to speak up' protocols.

Exit interviews are held with departing professionals. Any trends? This is not an easy place or field to work in. Some want to do gender for a bit then move on with their career.
@DetransAdNet @maitlis Debate returned to research need. A point was made that the ROGD phenomenon is broader than just that which is within the remit of the Tavistock. For example, the social media aspects, the ideology, the contagion, which other organisations could partner in the research?
@DetransAdNet @maitlis This is a really good point. Our thoughts are this needs to be done (e.g. @jamesfreespeech looking at desistance and detransition) but who and which Universities can do all the other angles? Can it be done in the round? Funding? It has to happen, who will make it so?
@DetransAdNet @maitlis @jamesfreespeech Detransitioners were mentioned again - of particular interest is the request to know "what should we pay attention to"
Could you get an answer for @taviandport , @charlie_sci ?
@DetransAdNet @maitlis @jamesfreespeech @TaviAndPort @charlie_sci Finally, we asked some questions:

Why are you harming our children when there is no evidence to justify the pathway?

You are experimenting on our children, how is this ethical?

We await a response.
