Yes, I think. A short thread on such. 1/
If Johnson becomes PM over the coming days (still some doubt), he knows he cannot get existing Brexit deal through the Commons. So what to do? He could (relatively quickly) go to Brussels, and ask for the Northern Ireland specific backstop to replace the current UK-wide one.2/
By accepting a NI-only backstop he could conceivably get the deal through the Commons. The price to be paid for such bold action would be to lose the support of the DUP, upon whose support the current government depends. 3/

(1) The extreme accommodations being offered by Grassley & Mitch are the greatest #BlessYourHeart in history.

They know she will NEVER repeat her allegations under oath.

They know the votes next week WILL be 11-10 then 51-49.

They know Kav will NEVER be impeached.

(2) OK I used a little poetic license in Tweet #1. They can't know exactly what the votes will be; there's more than one way to #ConfirmKavanaugh next week. Any judge *could* theoretically be impeached on a new issue, but IMHO Kav is the least likely person ever to commit crime.
(3) I've had it with all the shrieking over this confirmation. No, ongoing Democrat slime ball tactics to undermine Kav once he's on the SCOTUS are not going to succeed. Haven't you learned this by now?

#ABTVtoStopBrexit isn't about affecting the balance of power or forcing a General Election. #ABTV is about sending a message to the Tories, and *especially* to Labour that people don't support *any* #Brexit. Not a #HardBrexit, #SoftBrexit, #NoDealBrexit, #Lexit, or *any* Brexit.
The Tory's control more than half of councils, nearly double Labour. Losing control of even half of them is unrealistic, and even if it happened under fixed term government I can all but guarantee it won't result in a General Election.
A Prime Minister calls a GE under two circumstances:
1) They are miles ahead in the polls and think they can increase their majority (as in 2017)
2) They have suffered a humiliating defeat or scandal.
