Anyone who says #Nigeria is “doing ok” or “not so bad” is either rich & selfish, insane, ignorant or all of the above. I love Nigeria. Madly. But we’re almost in 2020 and most of our population have minimal or no electricity, which existed since the 1870s. That is pure madness!
Only a *tiny* fraction of Nigerians have the luxury of not spending several hours a week planning around the availability of electricity. How in the world are we supposed to improve our socioeconomic conditions if we are all constantly thinking about how to keep the lights on?
I’m not saying you have to do anything about electricity. I don’t expect every individual to feel responsible for solving the country’s problems. BUT please stop saying things are fine, or diminishing how bad things are, or telling people they should not be frustrated.
By accepting that our situation is critical, perhaps we’ll feel more urgency to either entrepreneur our way into cheaper distributed energy sources (not diesel & petrol generators), or protest/vote our way into government officials who stop ripping us off. #EndOfRant.
Now I can get back to work, which is the perfect distraction from the pain I feel knowing that so many people are unable to just have a great holiday season while the country is working for them.
