As mentioned earlier, I will now livetweet my creation of the Last Week in AWS newsletter in this thread.

Strap in; the process is ridiculous.
For those with no patience, here's the overall view: screenshots.duckbillgroup.com/JUDyv19pjThu
Items start out being collected via IFTTT, some custom Lambda functions, me tagging things as I go through the internet throughout the week, etc--but they all wind up in @pinboard. Use Pinboard.

@Pinboard This week was slow in the wake of re:Invent; I only have 56 items to review. I generally pare these down to ~30. Fun fact: if you have more than 102KB, Gmail forcibly truncates messages. I strive mightily to stay under that limit, hence the reason I care.
@Pinboard Some @awscloud announcements are important and need to be included. I add commentary as I see them to @pinboard's notes field. Use Pinboard.

@Pinboard @awscloud Others are patently ridiculous and are deleted from @pinboard without further comment.

Use Pinboard.

@Pinboard @awscloud Things I don't normally care about:

* @awscloud regional expansions
* Quickstarts on integrating random third party things I've never touched with @awscloud
* Anything with the word "beta" in it.

@Pinboard @awscloud This knocks me down to a much more reasonable 36 items in the queue. The tags should be self explanatory; "Current" is this week's issue, "AWS" are things from official AWS channels, "community" is most other things, and "tools' is open source tooling.

@Pinboard @awscloud Somewhat surprisingly to some folks, writing the snarky bits is the easiest / quickest part for me. Anywhere the term "LINK" appears it'll grab the title field and make that the clickable link.

@Pinboard @awscloud Every week has a different theme. This week, everyone and their grandmother had a re:Invent roundup post out. I pick one or two interesting ones and delete the rest.

Such is the danger of following the crowd.
@Pinboard @awscloud And snark complete. 33 links, that's good enough for me.

@Pinboard @awscloud Now I invoke a Lambda function that already fires every hour that backs up my @pinboard bookmarks for the week to DynamoDB.

Use Pinboard.

I could describe the Lambda, but here--take a look yourselves. github.com/QuinnyPig/pinb…
@Pinboard @awscloud I pull up the rendered Snarkdown and do a quick spot check. I didn't miss any links; yay.

@Pinboard @awscloud Now I hit another endpoint and get a more nicely formatted readout for @AWSMorningBrief. I pause to record it so it can head to the good folks at HumblePod for production over the weekend.

It is now recording time.
Podcast recording complete; back to the newsletter!

Everything added in, a different API endpoint spits out rendered HTML. Note the fancy copy link at top left.

Scheduled to go to 16K people on Monday at 7:30am, but @convertkit hasn't quite grasped the concept of timezones yet...

screenshots.duckbillgroup.com/BfOhoBj8z7fU
@ConvertKit One shell command resets the system for next week; now there's a completely empty queue.

And that's it! Questions?
