Holy crap I just received a shocking email from @OracleCloud:
Ignore the fact that my (unused, frankly I forgot it was running) free tier VM took an outage. It's the cloud; this is what things do: break.
They *proactively emailed me* to tell me about it, that they're working to fix it, and what to do if I need the data before it comes back.
Contrast this to another provider's, shall we say, "overly festive" status page, represented thusly:
This is possibly the best customer experience I've ever had from a cloud provider when something broke. Nice job, @OracleCloud; you hit this one out of the park.
@OracleCloud Since I'm getting skepticism: no, I'm not kidding.
Think about how an outage usually manifests.

You notice it and call support, then run the gauntlet of "are you sure you're not a moron? Can you prove it? Can you do two hours of intelligence gathering for us?" questioning.
Instead @oraclecloud *proactively notified me about an outage* and I'm not even a paying customer. I'm gobsmacked here.
