THREAD: Regarding the "Warren $2 million in consulting fees!" story: Nearly 20 years ago, I was retained as an expert witness by a law firm representing a website developer who was suing a client of theirs for failure to pay for the work done. 1/
I had only been a web developer myself for about a year and had completely lucked into the gig (the lawyer had originally mixed my web design company up with a different web developer, but decided to hire me anyway). He asked how much I charged for expert witness services. 2/
I had no clue what the going rate was, so I just told him what I normally charged for web design work, which was $50/hour at the time (remember, that's *billable* time only...it does NOT translate into $100K/year, believe me). He laughed and told me to triple the rate. 3/

@CoveredCA In October, I posted an analysis of @CoveredCA’s expanded subsidies, showing how they’ll reduce 2020 premiums for both those who didn’t previously qualify for subsidies *and* those already receiving them. However, I was using the wrong table for my calculations! 2/
@CoveredCA The ACTUAL expanded subsidy formula is even MORE generous! Therefore, w/apologies to @CoveredCA, @aewright & @healthaccess, I’ve re-run the numbers & graphs to show how much different households in Sacramento, CA will save if they #GetCovered for 2020! 3/

The responses to this ("but no one would be paying premiums/deductibles/co-pays!") are 1) completely accurate and 2) besides the point *politically* in terms of public perception for large chunks of the public.
Here in MI, @GovWhitmer suggested a $0.45 gas tax to #FixTheDamnRoads. She wasn't insisting on that specific funding mechanism; she was just making the point that *IF* you want the damned roads fixed, it'll cost $2.5B/yr, and that's one way of doing it...
...but that the average driver would actually save money on auto repairs/etc. versus the additional gas tax. I happened to support it (it was to be paired w/other tax cuts for the poor), but it went over like a lead-gasoline balloon, even among most Democrats.

What is happening with electricity in #California could turn into water shortages and gas shortages. I get a bad feeling about this. #Democrats push ONLY all-new electric housing now in CA. But then they cut the power. How long before this becomes a POLITICAL threat?
2/ It does not seem at all unlikely that rationing electricity “for the residents’ own good,” turns into, “We disagree with your conservative politics. And you are going to change OR ELSE.” @TuckerCarlson has been discussing the #wildfires fires in #California & how residents
3/ WEEKS later, are STILL without power. So far, only the Golden State appears to be exacting this draconian penalty. How long before OTHER blue states copy their behavior? Will it happen in red states with blue cities? I can see it....

2. Newsom is making a run for “worst governor in America” these days, but of course there are any number of other Democrat governors who are equally worthless if not downright evil. Here is Newsom claiming that LA and San Fran are “thriving.”
