It's worth discussing Bernie Sanders bizarre tolerance for individuals who have made anti-Semitic remarks
This issue came up a few weeks ago when he named Linda Sarsour a campaign surrogate - Sarsour has made a host of anti-Semitic comments and is a BDS supporter. Sanders himself has labeled BDS anti-Semitic
He is doing campaign events with Rep. Ilhan Omar who has used anti-Semitic language and has failed to adequately apologize for them. Many American Jews, including progressive Jews, were very troubled by Omar’s blasé use of anti-Semitic language.
And Sanders never condemned Jeremy Corbyn’s anti-Semitism even as he publicly praised him.
Sanders is the most prominent Jewish-American to ever run for president and yet he campaigns with people who to many American Jews are contributing to a growing atmosphere of anti-Semitism in the US. It’s bewildering and dismaying
I need to make a correction to this thread. Sanders has not said BDS is anti-Semitic - he has said that some criticisms of Israel are driven by anti-Semitism. But he does not support BDS
The response to this thread is the usual mix of decorum, good faith arguments, and polite disagreements that are the norm when a) you criticize Bernie Sanders and b) you point out the existence of anti-Semitism on the left
