It was founded by my grand aunt's brother in 1970 and is nearing its 50th year

Paper has a circulation of ~3500

Encourage people to spread the word
Hopefully it can get a wider readership

This goes to show the gulf that exists b/w the way the intelligentsia perceives things, and the way people see it

But then people's preferences cannot dictate every policy choice

We need to strike that balance between respecting "vox populi" and deferring to technocratic wisdom
Otherwise you will have the govt pursuing several "popular policies" that are akin to "killing the fly on the baby's head with a sledgehammer"

Sure, the fly will be killed, but will the baby be unhurt?

Usually the masses are not well placed to assess the risk-return tradeoff
I don't mean to deride people's wisdom here.

Usually there is a certain logic and natural justice to what the majority feels

But where the majority fails is in assessing the "details"

VHP is engaging in virtue signaling here

1. Priesthood is a transactional intermediary role in Hindu temples

2. It entails v specific skill sets + a lifestyle regimen that runs in certain families - it is not even open to all lay brahmins!
There is a tendency to position Priesthood as some kind of religious elite

Sorry..they are not. There is no parallel between Hindu priesthood and say Christian clergy or Muslim mullahs
A priest's role is transactional. He is supposed to have specific competencies in certain textual traditions that are sampradAya-specific

Outside of that the priest may be an ignoramus, and that's fine! Hindus don't expect their priests to be theologians or philosophers

Came across this movie hosue near Mysore, named "Venkateshwara Chitra Mandira"

Checked Kannada dictionary - Chitra Mandira is the term for a movie house!

What a travesty!

You cannot use the pristine term "Mandir" to describe a movie house - which is anything but pristine!
It is very worrying! And I hope Kannada lexicographers take note

A movie house, for better or worse, is a worldy place. Full of all base notions. Cheap vulgarities of all kinds

Please don't dignify it with the term Mandir!
If movie house is a "Chitra Mandira", then what about movie stars? Are they deities?

It sends the wrong signals to the larger society

An alternative I suggest is - "Chitra Bhavana"
