So I've decided to start digging into the backgrounds of some of the most rabid anti-China "reporters." I figured I would start with Melissa Chan, whose Twitter feed is a non-stop torrent of anti-China propaganda.

Wouldn't you know I found out she is a CFR member since 2016?
This fact, not mentioned in her Twitter bio or her Wikipedia page (despite being updated in 2019), would explain a lot.

In fact, it gets better. Not only is she a CFR term member, she also reported for the CIA propaganda front Voice of America in HK.
But wait! There's more!

Turns out that Melissa got her start in journalism doing work for ABC News as a member of a "research unit covering 2003 Iraq offensive."

Quite impressive that a total media rookie was assigned to such a high profile task covering US imperialism 🤔
After writing for VOA and other Western outlets in HK, she was picked up by Al Jazeera English.

Worth remembering here that Al Jazeera is Qatari state media. Qatar is effectively a military colony of the United States, hosting a CENTCOM HQ and an NSA warehouse.
Qatar played an essential role in facilitating US invasions and bombings throughout the Middle East. So it's no surprise AJ would be a good vehicle for mockingbird agents.
Melissa was, curiously, on the ground floor of many leading issues surrounding the balkanizing of China (which I've written about before at length). She was writing glowingly about Joshua Wong as far back as 2014 and scare pieces about Xinjiang in *2011*.
Melissa was ultimately ejected from China in 2012, ostensibly for her reports on alleged secret jails in China. It would seem the PRC was exercising good foresight as she has now turned into a full-on anti-China propagandist, especially since becoming a CFR member.
Today Melissa is a "collaborator" with the Global Reporting Centre, founded by Peter Klein. Klein's career was also marked by involvement in the "War on Terror" reporting. She also works for DW, a German state-owned outlet that has had it's own interesting problems.
Re: Melissa's ejection from China in 2012. She was ejected from China just after the exposure of a CIA network between 2010-2012. The PRC never gave specific reasoning for her removal.
