Answer is, it's impossible to imagine Obama acting like Trump. But if you try, you should imagine Obama having a Trump-like image for decades before being elected, then campaigning like Trump, and then winning like Trump. 2/3
That changes idea of what electorate wanted, or what it would tolerate in a president. Of course Congress and public standards are different for Trump. That's part of what the election of 2016 was about. 3/3 End.

There are many distinguished constitutional scholars and experts on Twitter. I'm not one of them. But on question of Senate calling WH witnesses to testify: Many of you think that will be the magic event that changes the game on impeachment. 1/3
But if I understand correctly, if the matter went to court and WH lost, the witness would be compelled to show up but could still refuse to answer at least some questions based on executive privilege. Might not be as satisfying as some hope. 2/3
Isn't that what the lower-court McGahn ruling said? Is there some reason a higher court would reject that? 3/4

1. When the actions of our government spark mass protest it is a sign that the democratic process is unwell - that the government is operating well-outside the mainstream. Historically, the reasons differ.
2. Usually, it is because the government is resisting change that is wanted by the majority of the country - as with the Suffrage and Civil Rights movements. It can also be due to a disagreement of the majority with policy - as with the Vietnam War.
3. The mass protests witnessed since 2016 are a bit different. We have seen a majority party not just resisting progress, but wishing to dial it back - fully aware it is against the wishes of the majority of the population.
