Thread. When we are about to go into yet another Vegan January, hear Corbyn talking about veganism same time as US couple court for death of their child due to vegan diet, one has to start asking where this idea it is the 'moral' choice comes from? I think 5 main origins👇
1.Western urban alienation & ability to rely on 'alternatives' to animals which ironically have done greatest ecological damage. Humans have been reliant on animal use for the vast majority of our existence and in the vast majority of cultures. Idea of not using them at all 👇
is purely contemporary: & manifest from an urban western culture which has little contact with or knowledge of food/clothing etc and its sources. They are provided for without seeing the realities involved. So they have become squeamish when realizing young that meat in plastic👇
was once a real animal- like Bambi.Their perceptions of animal sentience are based on Disneyfication. Paul McCartney, one of biggest longest term funders of animal rights ideology groups whose late wife launched vegan food big, even admitted that 'Bambi', he once said on radio👇
interview was when he realized. Those of us a bit closer to nature generally see no ethical dilemna in animal use. It doesn't mean you disrespect nature; on the contrary when we see indigenous peoples. Certainly doesn't mean enjoyment of cruelty to them: there or in the west 👇
most people who work with animals as farmers etc understand their needs & love them. The dilemna is only in the minds of those who had that 'shock' of realization. As a teacher I saw similar when urban kids (again partly because they don't experience seeing animal breeding), 👇
particularly mollycoddled middle class kids, when they were told the 'facts of life'. The resultant recoil & denial is common: they can't believe their parents did that dirty stuff. A disgust mechanism the result of ignorance. Just same way people can be Islamophobic/racist. 👇
If there is no God, morality is relative to ones cultural & individual experiences. And the disgust mechanism plays a big part in conflict over moral issues, except of course where there is near universal taboo eg rape murder cannibalism. And even those lines are blurred 👇
on times. War is legitimized murder for eg but 'just' on times eg against Nazis. Even westerners when nothing else will resort to cannibalism eg Andes plane crash. With few universal taboos and certainly not re animal use, vegan mindset when it becomes evangelical is bound 👇
to be guilty of cultural prejudice/racism/authoritarianism/virtue signalling/conflict geared/intolerant none of which are very 'ethical'. Nobody is forcing anyone to eat meat/wear hide. If Vegans want their choices respected they should respect those of others.
👇
2. Eastern religions with elements of elitism/enlightenment. notions based on caste/reincarnation ideas out of context (also influenced Nazism swastika means 'wellbeing' which we hear a lot about lately & rewilding policy, enlightenment re moral superiority etc). Vegans often👇
cite such cultures when they speak of treading lightly not hurting sentent beings etc, but these religions are NOT vegan. Even the Brokpa use yaks for work & clothing. India generally while it has an intellectual elite often vegan, relies so much on dairy for nutrition it has 👇
second largest inventory of cattle in the world; and also of course used for work. The Bropka come up time & time again btw because the young vegan gets their material from PETA's website. Talk about other indigenous peoples and get blanks. Many other Buddhist peoples in 👇
particular are hunters. Even of whales. Again we see this contradiction in mind of western observer; and taking it out of cultural context dangerous. But of course vegan evangelist needs to attempt this to suggest they're not culturally prejudiced & others share their beliefs👇
3. Puritan protestant influence in Christianity viewing 'excess' & indulgence as bad and its associated philosophy of utilitarianism. So we got the austere abstinence of Cromwell mob (banned cockfighting & horse racing but guilty of appalling mistreatment humans esp Ireland). 👇
Then Methodists for eg : Sand Creek massacre Colonel Chivington a Methodist Minister though they had lofty ideas about animals; and contempt for native Americans as 'savages' . Then we now have Adventists of course abusing science to push their Garden of Eden stuff: cereals 👇
designed to stop people masturbating, that did untold damage to the US grasslands exhausted soil etc. The Adventist Church, which also have a Creationist evolution denial institute, and not so long ago forbade homosexuals & sex before marriage at their Loma LInda Uni, are 👇
massively influential in driving the anti livestock narrative both in Environment & Nutrition/Medical science. Ripple & Harwatt for eg re environment much quote in the press, are Loma Linda connected. Belief Based science reducing livestock to calories is false accountancy on 👇
grounds of land use, nutritional value, & lack of consideration of co-produce v alternatives. Read more about that here: threadreaderapp.com/thread/1192823… 👇
4. The contemporary philosophy of Peter Singer. A man who considers bestiality not wrong, & some humans as less worthy than animals and contemptible and easily falsified attitudes for eg to those with Downs syndrome. This is the Godfather of the Animal Rights movement. Not what 👇
most people would see as very ethical at all. So These 4 things are where lofty vegan/animal rights ethics come from. And, I would argue those things have not produced very ethical outcomes on times when accompanied by zealous crusade.Ultimately I do not see anything remotely 👇
ethically defensible about forcing your moral codes on those of others. It looks like this, will always look like this, and there is nothing ethical or progressive about it and its pure cultural prejudice ie racism at the core 👇
So THAT is the issue with veganism. The crusade element. Nobody has a problem with it otherwise until they start spewing crap trying to tell other people they are immoral and now corrupting scientific integrity. Nobody forces anyone to eat meat wear leather or fur whatever but👇
don't think for a minute those choices are necessarily better for the planet or health because that's where people start saying BOLLOCKS! Because it is.Even much touted eco friendly clothing alternatives at scale are nothing of sort & ultimately damaging to people & environment👇
and why that push atm? Because of...

number
5. Global corporate attempt at controlling the world's resources & there are lots of people like this in way. So vegans are being used as brownshirts in a land & resources grab & to push global proletarian austerity dependent on 👇
sustaining the profits vision & power of an elite (Yep the WEF, WRI, Silicon Valley mob & their disruptive fake meat etc) & feeding us chickenfeed & cellulose while they jet set & ponder space tourism. Vegans are being used; and there is nothing ethical about that Globalist 👇
vision either whether its the socialist globalist agenda of the UN to produce global egality through management of proletarian expectations, or the Corporates & elite after sustainable profits.
So no, veganism as a crusade, does not outweigh the benefits of animal dependence, on health, environment, or ethics grounds. Got it? You want respect keep it to yourself.

So if you are a vegan, enjoy your nut roast & a Merry Xmas to you. Most of us will be having Turkey or👇
other meat/fish. It's a time of Peace & goodwill. But, if you come out of those sodding trenches on January 1st with the Veganuary nonsense with guns blazing rest assured you will be pushed back into then with redoubled efforts people have had ENOUGH! You are outnumbered 👇
outwitted and many seem pretty Out to Lunch as well. Hardly surprising when your diet is deficient in stuff for a healthy brain.
