@thesundaytimes @RFord4 2/ The prisoner in question "identifies as a woman". It is inaccurate and misleading to say the prisoner has "transitioned from male to female". The words male and female have a very specific meaning related to someones sex. The two phrases are not interchangeable.
@thesundaytimes @RFord4 3/ Sex is commonly regarded as a biological term. There is also a legal meaning. It is possible to legally transition from one legal sex category to the other. Self identifying as a woman does not change someones legal sex status.

@thesundaytimes @RFord4 5/ No matter what side of the 'debate' we are on I hope everyone agrees that accurate and meaningful language is going to be essential going forward. The conflation of sex and gender identity is at the centre of every argument.
