Shortly after 9/11, George W. Bush asserted ‘we fight against poverty because hope is an answer to terror.’ Similar claims about a link between poverty (or socioeconomic marginalization more generally) and political violence have been made by various other politicians.

Such arguments also feature regularly in policy lit, e.g. with WB claiming 'The best way to prevent societies from descending into crisis, including but not limited to conflict, is to ensure that they are resilient through investment in inclusive and sustainable development.'

2/ Combined, the results are a ‘gap analysis’ which can inform future research. Both studies were funded by @Charity_Futures, re its work establishing an Institute of Charity at Oxford University. But the findings can inform the agenda of any researchers in this terrain.

@Heinonmatti @NHankonen It seems roughly right, but I'd nuance it by emphasizing that this is not about proof; it's more like an underlying ('meta' if you will) belief in progress: that changes and adjustments in theory are generally towards truth/reality, not random or systematically away from it.
@Heinonmatti @NHankonen It's not about proving that there's some truth to what I say. It about arguing that the method I use to determine waht I hold as truth (and say) is bound ('proven') to lead to truth eventually. Which is more than anybody else ('non-scientists') can reasonably claim, I think.
