It isn’t just that her scenes were cut, it’s that Abrams wrote her out of the script. He created new undeveloped characters to do and say what Rose should have. Worst of all, when Rose does speak she literally rejects the call to adventure. It’s clear capitulation to angry nerds.

Each year the video game industry descends on LA for #E3 (The Electronic Entertainment Expo) to showcase the latest and greatest in interactive entertainment. And each year I do a statistical breakdown of the trends in gameplay mechanics. 2019 is my 5th year doing this analysis.
It’s no secret the gaming industry is laser focused on creating experiences that center violent combat. But engaging with a gameworld from behind the barrel of a gun or blade of a sword is extremely limiting. This is why my stats sort titles into combat and non-combat categories.
#E32019 started with the Electronic Arts press event. #EA only showcased 6 games. 50% of those were combat focused. Of the other 3 titles, 2 were annual sports franchise updates and 1 was a new DLC for the Sims 4. (I didn’t include Anthem because no footage was shown onstage).

This book was written in 1977 but it offers an insightful (and terrifying) analysis of the intersections between fascism and hypermasculinity. Many of the same tendencies can be found in the “alt-right” today.
“Männerphantasien” is a 2 volume set translated from the original German. Even though our understanding of gender has progressed significantly since the 1970s, the observations about far right masculinity shed light on the resurgence of fascist ideology. From the back cover:
Oof, not pulling any punches - “The point of understanding fascism is not only ‘because it might return again’ but because it is already implicit in the daily relationships of men and women.”

A handful of The Last Jedi haters in my mentions are offering up a fascinating misreading of the final showdown between Luke and Vader in RotJ. I think it's worth taking a moment to discuss because it may help explain why these guys hate Luke’s character so much in Episode VIII.
The misreading: Luke Skywalker uses his great warrior skills to defeat Darth Vader. Once he’s proven himself in combat and stands victorious, Luke does the honorable thing by showing mercy and sparing his enemy. Thereby saving himself from corruption and redeeming his father.
What really happened: Luke tries to avoid fighting but gives into anger. As he bests Vader in combat, Luke realizes his great mistake, winning this fight means losing his soul to the Dark Side. The battle itself is corrupting him, understanding this Luke throws away his weapon.

The data we have (from @VividSeats) is truly incredible. In every county, we have a record of the share of concert/etc ticket sales that fall into each genre in 2015/19. Here's that map (with each county scaled for population). Cities like rap/hip hop. Rural areas like country.
The music genre that most correlates with Republican vote share is, as you might expect, country music. A preference for "New Age" music (whatever that is) and Rock are also "red". Rap, Hip Hop & R&B, as mentioned, are "blue" music—as is liking alternative artists or Latin music.

Bethany Services is linked to Betsy DeVos and has been involved in abuses of kids, and has disturbing anti-LGBTQ policies. This is not a good agency for any children to be housed by, but has numerous sites nationally.

#New PA cong. map increases D chance of winning the House majority by 4%. They only need a 6.8% generic ballot margin now (down from 7.7) to be favored.

Diff. will be closer to 10% in Nov when uncertainty from polls is ⬇️. Redraw is a very big deal.

One major reason the new PA map is such a big gain for Democrats is that it solidifies, not just tips, PA districts in Philly burbs. Also creates one additional vulnerable R district. (Easily seen in this map made by @JMilesColeman)
My forecasting model will have new PA map in the near future. This is not just a simple switch; it’s a coding redesign, restructuring of input, & drawing new geographic files. Takes a while (for me, a student).
