One of my Christmas presents was a variety of rare strains of banana and I think Weird Fruit is the only present I want now? 
Yes. I think the one pictured is Gros Michel, which was the default banana in grocery stores until the 1950s. It's silkier and tastier but doesn't grow easily anymore. I'm tasting the past!
I'm not making anything with these except Peeled Banana
FYI the "banana candy flavor is based on the old strain of banana" thing seems to be a myth.
