Just remembered I forgot to sign up for a gym membership I won't use again this New Year.
It gets worse. I forgot about dry January and have just ordered a load of wine.

To steal from the Beach Boys, "I guess I just wasn't made for these times"
Now I've realised I forgot to make any New Year's resolutions. Perhaps too late to resolve that I'll do all the things I'm supposed to do next New Year?

Now we're properly into 2020 let's go into the detail of the UK-EU trade negotiations for the year head. Thread. TL:DR there are multiple negotiations, and none of them are simple, even the "barebones" FTA... 1/ theguardian.com/politics/2020/…
According to the Political Declaration the first item to be finalised is financial services equivalence - by the end of June 2020. 2/
According to the relevant EU documents there are 26 areas in which equivalence is judged, and not one country has been deemed equivalent in all of them. Even then equivalence falls a long way short of current levels of access. 3/ ec.europa.eu/info/sites/inf…

And we go again... still waiting for evidence of government understanding of trade deals.

Apparently writing off the car industry as well which might not go down well in many parts of the country...
It would be useful if someone could ask the government why we would want a simple tariff free deal for goods with the EU given that without including regulatory elements UK export costs would rise significantly in any case. Not sure it would benefit the EU much either.
Also, about that 2020 torrent of investment, and the relationship to Ministers saying that in effect lobbying is whingeing....

There's a lot of work needing doing.

Interesting Sunday Times Brexit nugget on EU vs US trade talks, something we're going to hear plenty more about in coming weeks and months. A couple things of note here... 1/4
The need for government to work out a single structure for post-Brexit talks. At the moment we have EU talks led from one place, US and the rest from another. Needs to be resolved, and that's a big potential turf war to come. 2/4
Then the realism of using US talks as leverage against the EU, or vice versa. To a degree possible, both want the UK in their regulatory orbit, and there could be some return. But both are tough negotiators, so probably limited, and either mean tying our future... 3/4

Bethany Services is linked to Betsy DeVos and has been involved in abuses of kids, and has disturbing anti-LGBTQ policies. This is not a good agency for any children to be housed by, but has numerous sites nationally.

Hank always reads to Cole, every night before bed. The only problem is, Cole, much like his dad, could get bored with the same stuff day in, day out.
As they finish the last short story in the children's stories anthology, cole is still awake, half heartedly playing with his stuffed giraffe.

Hank sets the book aside, "What's wrong, bud?"

Cole shrugs, "I don't like that book anymore."

NEW: This story gets worse & worse. Last week @openDemocracy revealed Met police not investigating what Electoral Commission had ruled were criminal offences by Leave campaigns because of ‘political sensitivities’. But then the plot thickened...
A Met police spokesman explained delay by saying that the force had not received the files until September 7. To which both @opendemocracy & I said, ‘WHAT?’ Because the Electoral Commission ruled on LeaveEU offence on May 17. Why on earth would it take 4 months to pick up files?
The Met police were seemingly blaming the Electoral Commission so we asked the Electoral Commission. Why did it take you four months to pass evidence to the police?
