An ICE attorney argued today that it was a "close call" whether an Army soldier serving in Afghanistan would suffer hardship if his mother were deported to Central America while he was deployed.

(I'm used to this kind of thing by now, but thought you might want to hear about it)
Not my case, but happy to report it ended with a win!

However, the judge was also of the opinion that the mother's case was a "close call." She had no criminal record & had dedicated her life to raising a man now willing to risk his life for the country now trying to deport her
N.B.: there *was* a special program available to protect members of military families who might otherwise be deported, but Trump loves our troops so much that he has effectively ended it

("There should be a better option for military families," the judge said on the record before granting the case. "There *was,*" I had to restrain myself from muttering from the front row.)
I've heard many #MAGA folks express surprise that Trump would cut off lifelines designed to protect classes of people everyone agreed should not be deported, but c'mon now. You knew.

If you voted for Trump, this is *exactly* what you voted for.
Who could have ever guessed that the guy who compared his mob-funded construction work to the service of a soldier who sacrificed his life for his unit just to stick it to the man's immigrant parents would be indifferent to suffering of military families

In better times, ICE counsel used to agree to cases like this. They now seem to be working in assumption that they should fight every case they are handed all the way, which has never been the job of any prosecutor in any context anywhere. Justice so often requires mercy.
