It is actually tempting to stop fighting for people who are bent on working against themselves but where does that leave the society & humanity we all share? What is missing in the equation here apart from the dearth of responsibility of our youth is the stopgap the IGP revoked.
His unconscionable action caused a relapse and police division took over from where SARS and other rogue units left off. They are all competing in the culture of impunity now and the society is bleeding for it. Even though SARS in some states are behaving themselves but...
...the advocacy wasn’t just about SARS but all the tactical units and the police division acting without limits and abusing the rights of the people for ransom. They know these things and yet the IGP reinforced the impunity by repealing the protocol put in place that worked. 
This is not to say that we are not working other angles as we are in no way asking that the Police reform themselves as that will simply be playing to the political gallery as done once by the presidency in isomorphic mimicry.
We know the difference between political pronouncements and actual process of reform which carried along all stakeholders with measurable set goals and measurable action plans. A vision without timelines and strategic plan is a mere dream. We are however working regardless.
The Police Trust Fund Bill is already passed into Law despite the cynicism of a village of intellectuals we once regarded as embankment of National progress. This is why genuine advocacy must never entertain prejudices but objectivity in clarity. Never be dissuaded.
As we speak we are working tirelessly on the concurrence of the Police Reform Bill with the House Of Reps. We still had a chat with the Rt Hon Speaker @femigbaja on this yesterday and he has proven his commitment to see this through. So we are moving legislatively.
When dealing with issues as hydra headed as this we must never allow sentiments, partisanship or distractions get in the way. This is about the progress of our nation via the strengthening of institutions especially one as critical as the closest authority to us the people.
We (@SIAF_NG) are not doing this to display piety or gain political clout. We are simply preparing the future for all our children’s sake. We’re planting trees where are rulers have failed in their morbid pursuit of reaping where they’ve not sown. We’re setting the right example.
So it would not be correct to say nothing is being done because a lot has been done and more is being done. Remember we are engaging culture (a way of life) and things didn’t get bad overnight. We are talking about a rot of over 70years based on neglect & irresponsibility.
It may take a bit of time before the madness is history. But in the meantime we are putting stopgaps in place to keep the rogues in check and help strengthen the police institution. The police is the public and the public is the @PoliceNG. We can’t do without each other.
Having said this we won’t shield then when they err and we also won’t hesitate to understand their issues and address same for all our sakes. We can’t allow the opportunity at Reformation to slip because if it does it may never happen in another 100years. We know the cost.
In the meantime please report all infringements and follow through. Stop handing over your phone to anyone this is tantamount to waving yourself rights to personal dignity. Don’t pay ransom because it doesn’t guarantee you freedom from another arrest. Don’t encourage impunity.
When you report and you are asked to come forward and make statements or identify arrested rogue officers, don’t give excuses about the prophecy of your herbalist or the witches in your village that warned against testifying. We are humans too and not immortals.
There is no case reported and made public that will not get justice. Police officers are being tried daily in orderly rooms across Nigeria and transferred to the civil courts once irrefutable evidence clears the reasonable doubts. The reason why most rogue officers walk free...
... with warnings and minor punishment is because of the refusal of witnesses and victims to follow through. Some will just stop taking calls or showing up. Some will not provide material evidence needed to nail the officers and others will simply claim they are afraid period.
We have no personal issue with any police officer and can not make a case against them without a witness. So the blame is not on the system in this regard but on you the citizen. You bring harm to others when you act irresponsibly this way. Follow through & stop discouraging us.
