Hi!!! We’re tweeting from the Serpentine Gallery for London launch of #CONNECT_BTS!!! Stay tuned~

Daehung Lee the art director of #CONNECT_BTS said people have forgotten how to communicate properly with each other. I heard the question from fellow artists and friends why BTS? How can BTS and contemporary artist have beautiful collaborations? Well -

“Some people say pop music and visual art is different but in terms of overarching art, in terms of multiple senses to get a proper understanding of the world... you really need an eye to see it a nose to smell it touch to carry the information we need to hear something.”

Daehung Lee said he’s been listening to BTS for the past 4/5 years and said he “realised their incredibly proven popularity to communicate with people around the world.”

For #CONNECT_BTS, Danish artist Jakob Kudsk Steensen has created a “virtual forest” named catharsis that can be experienced at the Serpentine in London or online at catharsis.live

For #CONNECT_BTS, Sir Antony Gormley’s work “Render of New York Clearing” will be made on site in New York City and will be a combination of sculpture and drawing.

Korean artist Yiyun Kang says it’s been amazing to watch BTS and ARMY grow in popularity, and to prepare for #CONNECT_BTS spoke to ARMY of all genders and ethnicities to understand their dedication to the band and their music.

Kang’s project for #CONNECT_BTS is inspired by @BTS_twt’s “exquisite choreography” to create environments to experience and navigate the philosophy of BTS and ARMY.

Jimin says it’s an honour to be a part of #CONNECT_BTS in order to help connect people around the world.

Jin says #CONNECT_BTS is about respecting the power of diversity, which rather than separating us, helps bring us together.

Jungkook says @BTS_twt spoke with the artists via video call and it’s meaningful to him how the artists create their work in the same way they make music for their fans.

Taehyung says the group learned a lot through the project, and hopes that ARMY can also learn from experiencing the art made for #CONNECT_BTS.

Yoongi says BTS have received support they never expected from ARMY, and have always been inspired by the ability of music to communicate across borders and barriers. He says #CONNECT_BTS has helped him learn that the same goes for art.

Hoseok hopes #CONNECT_BTS will be an opportunity for them to share the love they have with ARMY and hopes others will enjoy it too.

Namjoon is happy that they get to share this project with ARMY! He wants #CONNECT_BTS to help prove in his belief that art can change the world.

He’s been getting into fine art since last year, and Namjoon’s favourite hobby is to visit galleries.

“It always gives me a whole other world of thrill, shock, and inspiration. I hope more people can believe in the power of art, that it can help and change the world.”
