Worth noting that the GOP has been trying to kill independent oversight bodies like the GAO for decades. A dislike for accountability is not just a feature of the Trump-era GOP, though he's taken it to new extremes.

Gingrich saw bodies like the GAO and CBO as obstacles in his way, not bodies that gathered and analyzed empirical data in order to inform the public of the impact of proposed legislation. Calling CBO "socialist" is both hilarious and pathetic.
