The video below is an excerpt from a town hall discussion between Elizabeth Warren and voters.

An evangelical man asks Warren why he should vote for her when she so clearly stands against his Christian beliefs about issues like abortion.

Her response is typical and disappointing. She says that women facing unwanted pregnancies should be free to consult with anyone about what to do with the pregnancy, but the one party that shouldn't be involved is the government.

The crowd applauds. Conversation over.

Her answer is an absolute evasion of the central moral question.

The central issue is not about small government. The central issue is about small people that our government says it is legal to kill.

Why can't Democratic candidates face that central moral question? Why won't they explain why they exclude a whole class of people from the human community? Why won't they explain why they believe it should be legal to kill an unborn person for any or no reason at all?

Suppose a candidate believed that it should be legal to fire bullets into passing trains. And suppose that candidate were asked why they believe it should be legal to shoot at passing trains and puts lives at risk.

If the candidate's answer was, "Because the government should not be involved in deciding where I shoot my gun," everyone would recognize that as a silly evasion of the central issue--the risk to human life.

Similarly, why can't voters recognize Warren's answer for the vacuous evasion that it is?
