bullshit...Bernie doesn't get intersectionality. He thinks class is prior to race and everything else. Real intersectional thinkers don't bash "identity politics" because those identities are part of intersectional thinking...
By all means, ask Kimberle Crenshaw (who developed the concept of intersectionality) what she thinks about Bernie's race analysis and intersectional thinking...I can ask her for you if that's easier...
Kim, like me, apparently believes Bernie has lots of strong points to recommend his candidacy. But that doesn't mean he can't do better on these intersections. They need work...god knows Joe's need a lot more, as do Pete's, and Warren's do too.
But that's just it: we can critique someone to do better, even while supporting them in other ways. I want candidates to do better on these things. Period. Being better than others, or better than most is not enough.
and for those of us who mostly do race work, it is maddening to hear progressives make such easy mistakes on race. Just like for folks who focus mostly on class, I'm sure it's maddening to hear people who do well on race/gender, botch class analysis...
all of us can do better and should push each other do so...and when a person runs for president, we need to not be satisfied with the fact that they are far more progressive than anyone before them. That's great, but giving a pass on race analysis is not OK...
I have said for a while that I am more in line with Bernie on most issues than any other candidate, followed by Warren. Kim's take is similar from all I know of it. And I would gladly support either one. But we have to expect folks to have a more developed race analysis than this
Because when Bernie talks about race he sounds no different than any white Marxist for the past century, and that means he hasn't really kept up with the research and analysis in this area, which is not acceptable
