1/ Seems to be confusion about what happens after January 31 between the UK and EU. But the UK press is focusing on other issues.

So here's a thread about the transition period, partly in the style of the UK press to keep your attention.

Look at this ROYAL about to FIGHT ⬇️
2/ Many people saying that they "lose EU rights" after January 31. But if the withdrawal agreement is ratified, EU law continues to apply between the EU and UK for the rest of 2020 - including free movement, EHIC etc

Here's a LONDON LANDMARK needing REPAIRS ⬇️
3/ The transition period can be extended for one or two years, but the UK government opposes that so it's probably unlikely. The deadline to decide on extension is 30 June, unless the withdrawal agreement is amended.

Here's an ANGRY DUDE about to have a TANTRUM ⬇️
4/ The UK won't have a role on EU institutions during the transition period, but will still be subject to new EU law and CJEU jurisdiction.

Here's a DODGY NEWSPAPER EDITOR shouting his NONSENSE OPINION for ATTENTION ⬇️
5/ There are a handful of EU laws that won't apply during transition, such as voting rights for local elections (although UK/EU27 States can *opt* to retain these rights). The UK keeps current opt outs and can refuse to apply new EU foreign policy.

6/ More details in this blog post - eulawanalysis.blogspot.com/2019/10/analys…

Feel free to ask further questions if you have them after reading.

Except...
7/ ...if you want to argue about whether the withdrawal agreement will enter into force, or if it *should* enter into force, please take it up with Tony ⬇️
8/ Crucial point about EU citizens in the UK, or UK citizens in the EU. The rest of the withdrawal agreement partly protecting their rights (as well as the Northern Ireland protocol etc) REMAINS IN FORCE even if there's no trade deal at the end of the year.
