Trump lawyer Sekulow just told reporters, "Notice what’s not in the articles of impeachment: allegations or accusations of quid pro quo."

The *words* quid pro quo aren't in the articles, but the Abuse of Power article is all *about* Trump's alleged quid pro quo effort.
The Abuse of Power article alleges that Trump conditioned "official United States Government acts of significant value to Ukraine" on Ukraine announcing investigations that would give him "personal political benefit." That is, plainly, an accusation of a quid pro quo.
And now the White House promotes it.

Ted Cruz got 14,000 retweets, one from the Trump campaign, for a claim Lev Parnas was just ejected from the Senate gallery - saying "#CantMakeItUp."

Parnas' lawyer and people in the gallery say this didn't happen. Parnas was in Washington but never entered the Senate.
Here's a tweet from Parnas' lawyer (who did get tickets from Schumer's office, which said he's a New York constituent who asked). The lawyer said in advance that Parnas couldn't enter the Senate, because of his ankle monitor, and wouldn't try.

Trump begins by accurately reciting some economic stats, such as that New Jersey's unemployment rate is at a record low; the USMCA; and the death of al-Baghdadi, whose demise gets big cheers and a U-S-A chant.
Trump says Soleimani was "actively planning new attacks." (He's dropped most of the language about imminence.) He singles out Pelosi and Sanders with disparaging nicknames for opposing the killing of Soleimani.

Trump lawyer Bondi played the vid of Joe Biden talking about trying to get Ukraine prosecutor Shokin fired. She said Shokin was "investigating Burisma."

She didn't say: A) Shokin was widely accused of corruption; B) Former Shokin deputy has said Burisma probe was dormant; 1/2
C) Ousting Shokin was widely seen as a move that would increase, not decrease, the chance of aggressive action against companies like Burisma; D) Biden was acting in accordance with the policy of the US and its allies.
Bondi then read what Trump said on the Zelensky call - that "Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution." She accused House managers of omitting this important fact.

Biden never bragged he stopped any prosecution. He bragged that he'd gotten a corrupt guy fired.

Welcome to today's #Trump #ImpeachmentTrial thread (potentially one of a few)! I've been playing around with tags a little in other tweets this morning but for now, I'm going to stick with the two I've used here. That may change later on, though. Follow/mute at will!
Today is going to be procedural stuff. The Senate will have to approve the (completely BS) rules proposed by McConnell. Dems will offer amendments, of course, but since a simple majority rules I don't have a lot of hope any of the amendments will pass. #Trump #ImpeachmentTrial
For those of you just tuning in, McConnell is proposing that this trial have:

Zero witnesses
Zero admitted evidence
Ridiculously little time set aside for opening arguments and questions.
As little sunlight as possible.
