*Thread Several things missing/wrong w this @washingtonpost write up

1. No mention that Pal leaders have rejected numerous offers for statehood dating back to 1937. More recently, in 2000,2001&2008. Last formal offer, accepted by Israel, included more than 90% of "West Bank" &
@washingtonpost a capital in eastern Jerusalem.

2. No mention that Pal leaders refused bilateral negotiations--required by Oslo Accords that created the PA--under Obama, as well. In 2014 and 2016, the PA rejected, and Israel accepted, proposals to restart talks based on the 2008 offer
@washingtonpost That offer can be found here tabletmag.com/scroll/195315/…
@washingtonpost Details of one of the rejected proposals can be found here. elderofziyon.blogspot.com/2017/11/even-s…
@washingtonpost In 2016, the PA's Foreign Minister declared “We will never go back and sit again in a direct Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.”
@washingtonpost Yet, this dispatch insinuates that the Palestinians only began to reject negotiations because of Trump/Embassy move etc. But it clearly predates those things.
@washingtonpost Indeed, even before the Embassy move, in a November 2017 op-ed in their official newspaper, the Palestinian Authority--which is largely reliant on foreign aid in hopes that it will be a "peace partner"--claimed that the U.S. created ISIS blogs.timesofisrael.com/days-of-rage-a…
@washingtonpost Additionally, @washingtonpost claims that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is eight decades old. This is false. And if it were true, one should ask why the Palestinians and their interlocutors in the press, don't blame either Egypt or Jordan for not creating a Pal state
@washingtonpost When those two countries occupied and ruled the Gaza Strip and the "West Bank" from 1948-1967
@washingtonpost In fact, the conflict goes back at least 100 years and can be reasonably dated as beginning 100 yrs ago this April, during the Nebi Musa riots. Ignoring the first two decades of open conflict is to ignore other rejected peace offers, and acts of terrorism. It is ahistorical
@washingtonpost Finally, I find it interesting that @washingtonpost quotes Mahmoud Al-Aloul, whom they note is a "possible successor" to Mahmoud Abbas, the PA President. Here's why:
@washingtonpost Al-Aloul's nickname is Abu Jihad (Father of Jihad), he is an unrepentant and convicted terrorist who was the protege of Khalil Al-Wazir, the arch PLO terrorist. What does it tell you that this individual--who has praised terror attacks--is the putative frontrunner to lead the PA?
@washingtonpost And what does it tell you that @washingtonpost ignores his history and fails to tell readers about either that or his nickname?
@washingtonpost When Abu Jihad was first announced as Abbas's deputy--the second in command to an octogenarian who hasn't held elections in more than a decade--the press, including @washingtonpost ignored his appointment camera.org/article/camera…
@washingtonpost I noted this in several op-eds, several of which were sent to Post staff. And I asked them when they intended to cover his appointment specifically and Palestinian politics more generally. That the possible successor to a U.S.-backed "peace partner" is a terrorist seems newsworthy
@washingtonpost Anyways, now they've magically discovered him, uncritically quoted him, ignored his history, his nickname and his previous statements supporting terror. Just as they ignored previous rejections of peace plans, statehood, etc--all of which predate the Trump admin.
