THREAD: The term “electable” is dumb. I watched my hero Howard Dean lose to an “electable” candidate. Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry were “electable." They all lost. Obama excited people. And they showed up. You know who else excites people? @ewarren. #AllOfUs4Warren
It should be no surprise to anyone who follows me that I join #AllOfUs4Warren in endorsing @ewarren. I started covering her when I was at Upworthy. She had a habit of holding government officials accountable in senate hearings. She’d make senate hearings “go viral.”
She stumped Bank Regulators with common sense questions. #AllOfUs4Warren
She congenially and strategically took apart bank lobbyists who took advantage of families. #AllOfUs4Warren
And she explained how math works to a bunch of suits who are scared of raising the minimum wage. #AllOfUs4Warren
When I got to sit down with her in 2014, I looked for a hint of “standard dodging politician” to show up. She did what she always does. She was direct, transparent, practical and earnest. She was impressive and authentic. This was a leader I could believe in. #AllOfUs4Warren
At the end of our convo, I asked her if she’d be game to photobomb us. She responded, “Sure, no one has ever asked me that before!” Because of her sense of humor, we made history as I became the first person to get the future first woman president to photobomb me. #AllOfUs4Warren
I thought, “She could be the first woman to become President of the United States.”

And then I thought, “I hope she doesn’t run, I don’t want to care. I don’t want to be invested. The system is broken, gives us candidates who play to not lose instead of win" #AllOfUs4Warren
In 2016, she didn’t run. It was Hillary’s “turn.” I caucused for Bernie. And I was comfortably smug about not having to be invested in a candidate. Hillary would at least make history, even if she was to the right of me. There was no way Trump could win.
And then he did, with an assist from Russia and Facebook, despite losing the popular vote. I spent election night trying to console my 5 year old daughter, unable to explain why the mean incompetent man beat the smart educated woman. It was soul-crushing and still haunts me.
Enter 2020. Senator Warren announces. 16 years after I refused to be invested in a candidate ever again, @ewarren forced my hand. I have to be invested and care about a candidate. #AllOfUs4Warren She has well constructed, strategic thoughtful plans about everything. So rude.
She listens to the people I trust who push for systemic change. #AllOfUs4Warren
She listens to the folks who can help us reach new voters. #AllOfUs4Warren
She listens to the people most affected by Trump’s awful policies. And she internalizes their feedback and becomes a better candidate every time she shows up. #AllOfUs4Warren
You know who doesn’t learn and adapt? The “electable” candidates. They stick with their corporate donors, their tired positions, and their safe “moderate” stances on systems that are fundamentally broken. They are playing not to lose. We need to actually win this time.
I want someone who can lead with big ideas. I want someone who can inspire new voters, instead of reaching for the mythical moderate voters who will magically appear if you happen to compromise your values to the point that they are meaningless. #AllOfUs4Warren
I want someone who knows how the system works and is strategic about how to fix it. I want someone who will stand up for all of us, especially the folks who have been harmed the most by our system and the dudes who ruin it. For me, that person is @ewarren. #AllOfUs4Warren
Almost every white dude who has won the Democratic nomination over the last 4 decades has lost. Your definition of electability needs an overhaul.
TLDR: @ewarren is the most informed candidate.
The most transparent candidate.
The most thoughtful candidate.
The most inspiring candidate.
The most strategic candidate.
She brings the big structural change.
And brilliant people support and work for her.

I was one of TWO people. @lamour was the other. I wish there was a tweet edit button. Because this historic moment belonged to both of us. And I got greedy and selfish and sloppy in my tweet.
