It's stunning that some folks are treating the idea that Senate Republicans were "blindsided" by the Bolton bombshell as a real argument. It's self-incriminating. What really "blindsided" them is that their cover-up for Trump has been upended. New piece: washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…
1) Trump's defense is that no one who has testified heard him link military aid to investigations

2) Trump won't allow testimony from the very people who discussed this matter directly with him

3) Thus, not hearing from them is a coverup *by definition*

The notion that Senate Republicans were “blindsided” by Bolton’s revelations is a sick joke. They always knew what Bolton would tell us — which is *exactly why* they have opposed hearing his testimony so aggressively.

The coverup blew up in their faces.

BREAKING: Trump *directly* enlisted John Bolton in his efforts to pressure Ukraine, ordering him to call Zelensky and deliver Trump's corrupt demand, NYT reports.

.@SenAlexander's craven surrender to Trump leaves our country exposed. He tells us our only mechanism of accountability is the election, while admitting Trump is guilty of trying to corrupt that election, and letting him skate without a full accounting.

Media accounts are not clearly conveying that a Senate vote against new witnesses is a vote to complete *Trump's* coverup.

It's a vote to *never* hear these witnesses. Trump is *explicitly* demanding that GOP Senators rig his trial to his specifications.
