If you are joining for today’s #NLF2020 talk, there will be lots of different things I quickly mention in the short speaking time, but this is decades of many people’s work, communities & places are leaderful, no systemic work is done alone. Here is some of the work mentioned:

We are just one of many many pioneers, the ideas, energy, cultural and community legitimacy is there. It just needs supporting, spreading, investing in deeply. Some of the mentioned will include @WeCanMakeHomes, @buildakiondo, @MAIA_Group, @bobimono’s #LetsBuild project. Follow.
It’s nowhere near everything that contributes to ecosystems of work, but it’s a bit of expansion of things mentioned that you can dig into, & gives 1/1000th of an idea of how much we all build on / with, consume, are supported by every step of the way.
This doesn’t even go into history, or deeper connection. The stories of how things happen are never simple, you’ll never be able to attribute it all, but don’t pretend it is just your personal or org’s brilliance.

.. expensive, & they demanded a huge deposit, but having been gloriously thrown out of Millennium Point a few months early, and with a eclectic and inspired public movement, and our huge inspiration from @impacthub_oak, we knew the time was right to start, & build our dreams ...
... we got together a deposit, accepted the rent and got going. The basics were there in the spaces, they weren't falling apart, but they were dusty, the walls weren't sealed, there was no electricity, hot water, glazing, doors or anything other than a blank canvas ..

This is not always true and it’s not right to dissuade people who engage in such teachings. I used to castigate people who teach you wealth creation but don’t do it themselves but if you look at it, it’s quite flawed and it depends on the operational level.

I know a Professor in the UK who teaches how to make money using forex and the capital markets. He doesn’t have the practical experience, he has the knowledge and that’s what he loves passing on.

Read about Warren Buffett; he owes a lot to his teacher at the business school
He even once said that after graduating, his lecturer kept teaching him how to make money easily by trading in stocks but the same lecturer never did it.

Point is, there are people who truly understand the dynamics of how economics work; they can teach you how to make money but

Short rant about Quantum Computing breaking bitcoin:

1/ If you study even a little of it, you realize very quickly that the engineering challenges are enormous. Most attempts use temperatures a tiny fraction of a degree above absolute zero, not exactly easy to produce.
2/ What's more, the way quantum works is that you have lots of coherence problems and half-life problems. You need redundancy which adds enormous complexity to the system.
3/ Add to that the best quantum algorithms really only give you a square-root factor speed-up. So if it took 2^256 operations for a brute force attack, congrats, now you need to do 2^128 operations... on a quantum computer.

The YouTube algorithm that I helped build in 2011 still recommends the flat earth theory by the *hundreds of millions*. This investigation by @RawStory shows some of the real-life consequences of this badly designed AI.
This spring at SxSW, @SusanWojcicki promised "Wikipedia snippets" on debated videos. But they didn't put them on flat earth videos, and instead @YouTube is promoting merchandising such as "NASA lies - Never Trust a Snake". 2/

I'm still figuring this out myself, and there's a lot of advice about dealing with anxiety available, so I'm just going to list the things that work best for me. I'll talk about sleep, trying to clear your head, still working during the anxiety and getting help.
1st, tell someone you're struggling. I told my supervisor and I can't imagine trying to hide it from her, but I know some people aren't comfortable with that. Find a colleague you trust and tell them. (The benefit of telling your supervisor is they're responsible for helping.)

There are people who work in comics who agree with Comicsgate trolls. They agree with the racism. The transphobia. The homophobia. The vile bigotry that's being pumped out on YouTube. That's why they don't fight it.
There are others who can't risk their jobs. They work for companies where if they take a hard line with virtually anything, they chance not having any more work. There are still others who take risks behind closed doors to right wrongs. They do what they can.
NONE of this helps the people who are left flapping in the wind to scramble and find ways to protect themselves alone.

THAT'S what I have a problem with.

The lack of community in my community.
