California NIMBYs win again. This cycle is so depressing. And now the gentrification and sprawl and traffic and air pollution and carbon emissions will continue on their upward trajectory. la.curbed.com/2020/1/29/2111…
Interesting that the Nor-Cal contingent, perhaps because the housing crisis is even more acute here, mostly came to support. Resistance came from LA. Some well-intended if IMHO misguided, but some decidedly not.

Detailed reporting out of who is voting which way and why is key.
.@mje415 has been doing great reporting on SB50 and other housing issues for us. Give her a follow: motherjones.com/politics/2020/…
@mje415 There are always risks to changing policy. But when current policy is failing spectacularly on every possible level it must be risked, with as much mitigation to actual harms as possible.
@mje415 Meanwhile, look to Paris, where density is long standing, but city leaders are taking a hard look at any underused space. Some is being turned to housing. Some is being turned to parks and woodlands.

We're just sitting on our ass as shit falls down around us.
@mje415 The only real winners if SB50 fails is current homeowners, who will profit from increased scarcity, protected from any downside by Prop 13.

Make no mistake, that's the bulk of the resistance to it. The fears of others give them cover.
