It's because they (want people to) believe the will of the people can bend reality. It's called subjectivism.

We saw it with Richard Madeley who implied that because enough people BELIEVED Theresa May's exit deal wasn't an exit deal, then it wasn't an exit deal.
You saw it with Mark Francois whose only response to the flaws in his deal was that Boris Johnson won an election with it.

If we're ever going to restore rational discussion in the UK we have to remember that:
