So what was Airbus doing & why were they doing it?

Well if you want to sell airplanes you have got to beat the competition, which in Airbus' case means Boeing. You can't bust Airbus without taking down Boeing too!
This $3.9B settlement is the largest foreign bribery case ever resolved (though I bet Boeing's will be larger!
Bribery all over the world to government & executives to sell planes. Settles with the US, UK & France.
The FCPA case stems from bribing officials in China to sell them planes & the arms control violations stem from failing to disclose political contributions while seeking approval for arms control export agreements. Are we back to State Dept. & CFIUS again...
DOJ is almost begging Boeing & other manufacturers to step forward & self report their similar crimes to reduce the penalties that are coming!
This was a 5 year scheme started in 2011 & ending in December 2016. Well that is convenient timing for the end of this bribery scheme.
Looks like a hint to the largest aerospace company in the world to come forward with their fraud & bribery schemes before the DOJ comes to them!
In addition to the bribes to Chinese officials, it covers bribes in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Indonesia and Ghana.
Looks like they played games with shell companies to hide the bribes going through Hong Kong to China.
Further reminders that Airbus got it's penalties LOWERED to $3.9 Billion!

Because they came forward to the Trump DOJ & confessed to their crimes!
Now why do I think this is a warning shot to Boeing to confess? Well because Boeing was likely doing a lot of the same things, but they were using the Clinton Foundation & US EXIM Bank to handle their deals!
forbes.com/sites/scottham…
How big? Well 53% of EXIM Bank's funding is loan guarantees for Boeing jets to foreign purchasers. They say it is essential for Boeing to sell airplanes or Airbus with use a similar EU program to guarantee the buyers loans!
Obama even made sure to get in on the announcement by Lion Air in Indonesia that it was buying Boeing jets using EXIM funding...
Looks like is it considered common practice for governments to ask other governments for favors to keep US factories open.
It was pretty common knowledge that Boeing & the Clinton Foundation were doing a quid pro quo in an effort to compete with Airbus. And also winning competitions for US Air Force contracts too!
I wonder what Boeing could confess?
seattletimes.com/seattle-news/t…
So where did those foreign sales lead, corrupt states like Turkey & Brazil.
But more importantly, Clinton pitched to a Russia airline to buy 50 Boeing jets in 2010! Looks like real #RussianCollusion with a $900M donation to the Clinton Foundation to thank them for their help!
Sect of State Clinton also stepped in when problems arose funding the US booth at the 2010 World's Fair in China because it was illegal to make the donations to the 'non-profit' running it. Using, Terry McAuliffe as a conduit to seal a deal with Boeing & the Chinese to fund it.
Always convenient, Hillary makes an appearance & shady funding starts to flow...
It seems she convinced people that it was important to the State Department!
Wikileaks State Dept. emails shed some light on these deals. Including the participation of Terry McAuliffe with the behind the scenes effort to raise 'funds'.
Like the banks all over the world, favors in the aerospace industry lead to donations & speaking engagements for Bill Clinton! Then donations to Super PACs to get her elected in 2016.
I don't have time to do any more on this today, but never forget that @GenFlynn's business partner was Bijan Kian, who was a Director at the EXIM Bank from 2006-2011.
He might be a good person to flip or spy upon if you want to get intel on the Swamp.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bijan_Kian
@GenFlynn The Obama Admin also helped Boeing get a $20B to sell planes to the Iranians as part of the Iran Nuke Deal. Airbus got a similar contract from Iran. Wonder if Airbus has turned over any evidence of how that money was passed on to politicians?jakartaglobe.id/news/airbus-ir…
The Trump Admin cancelled these contracts with the imposition of sanctions on Iran! Wonder if the bribes got paid before that though...

The investigation continues to expand. Now Malaysia is looking at executives identified as taking Airbus bribes in UK filings regarding the case.
$50M paid out to a sports team owned by the 2 executives. HT @Dust_Off70

It is tough to run after one side of the conspiracy has already confessed & handed over the #receipts!
Wonder what the total kickbacks were on 274 airplanes?
#ButNothingsHappening!
Of course this ties into corruption in European football teams. According to this source Air Asia CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and exec. chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, are major shareholders are listed as shareholders of Queens Parks Rangers so likely received the $50M bribes.
Looks like there was another $55M bribe blocked in late 2014 by a freeze on payouts...

So someone was on to this 5 years ago...

Fernandes & his partners bought the team in 2011 shortly after it's promotion to Premier League.

Other stories show who got the bribes in Ghana...
I find it interesting that it went through a Spanish defense company intermediary. I have covered other investigations in that Swamp.
hopeghananews.com/airbus-reveals…
Seems Airbus' internal watchdog group detected the suspicious activity in 2011, but the company kept it up until 2015...
Sri Lanka is investigating a $2M payment to the wife of a Sri Lanka Airlines executive.
It's amazing how many countries have to drain the Swamp when the DOJ & allies publishes the #receipts!
newswire.lk/2020/02/02/pre…
Looks like the bribe may have been paid to a Formula 1 racing team owned by the same execs rather than to the football team.
Seems Airbus, had a sponsorship deal with the team.
Oh look, so did Renault, but Ghosn set up that deal.
Wow, GE was sponsoring them too!
Huh, seems Airbus & GE ended their sponsorship of the team when Fernandez sold the F1 team to concentrate on football!
Seems people on reddit recognized that the sponsorship retraction was unusual & that the sponsorship was only because Fernandez bought planes from Airbus & engines from GE...
More details on the Sri Lanka bribes. $2M up front to a shell company owned by the wife of airline executive. Then an additional $1M as each plane was delivered. dbsjeyaraj.com/dbsj/archives/…
Despite staff at Airbus realizing this was shady, the executive in Paris approved & set up a consulting contract with the wife's shell company to pay her for consulting on the deal...
This a common way that bribes are paid in the #ButNothingsHappening cases.
Very likely she is the wife of the CEO of SLA, as he made the announcement of the public deal at the same time & place (Paris Air Show) as the private deal was sealed.
Even a $5M bonus for not buying from any other manufacturers...

Not surprising, the US portion of this investigation goes back 4 years to Comey's FBI. The French & UK investigations go back more than a decade.

Now they can turn to the individuals who committed the crimes with the #receipts!
Some additional details of the multi-year effort to change legal standards to help get these companies in global corruption cases.

ft.com/content/f7a01a…
This cooperation stems from the 2014 offensive by the FBI & some at DOJ against global banks for money laundering.

Airbus handed over 30 million documents to investigators, that is quite the example of cooperation.
The receipts give investigators the tools to identify the corrupt middlemen, the banks, & the legal teams that helped set up these deals.
In this case set up by the merger that created Airbus in 2000.
Brought Chinese officials to Hawaii in 2013 to wine & dine them...
This is very interesting too, Airbus admitted to paying 55 million euro in political contributions & fees to try to get Australia to purchase the Eurofighter Typhoon instead of the Lockheed Martin F-35.
Correction: it’s $900K not $900M typoed it or autocorrect got me.
