An Open Letter to my fellow citizens of the MAGA denomination

Dear MAGA Crowd,
You were right all along. There is a party in our government that is going to come to our homes and take away our guns. I can see it coming now, and I need to let you know that you were right. (1)

Guns represent our freedom as American citizens. They are a tangible, deadly symbol of all our other freedoms. Like our freedom to force our religious beliefs on others and dictate women’s reproductive rights or lack thereof. You were right, they are coming for the guns, (2)

and soon, I fear. Hey, don’t look over there while we are burying a bill to increase the security of our elections, the elections that we have a right to; we are over here making sure those Dems don’t take your guns. Stop checking to see if that lawsuit will really strip (3)

away your rights to medical coverage due to pre-existing conditions, we are over here trying to reverse Roe. We are for your human rights. But don’t mind that we withdrew from the UN Human Rights Council. It costs too much money, or something like that. And srop looking (4)

over there where someone is rambling on about your right to have a government where the 3 branches are separate but equal, and the DOJ is not an extension of the Executive, because over here we are protecting all you hunters and collectors and range shooters. Don’t mind those (5)

stories about selling your public lands, it’s probably fake news. There’s nothing to see over that way, either, as we try to steal the money out of Social Security. Even though all of us have been paying into it since our first lousy part-time job in high school, we’ll call (6)

it an entitlement, so that you’ll think it’s really your tax dolllars going to lazy people, aka people of color, so you won’t mind that we grabbed your retirement money that you already paid for. Because over here, we are protecting your God given right to bear arms. (7)

All that talk about the right to privacy and illegal surveillance is just nonsense cooked up by the ACLU. Besides, we are only using it against people who don’t look like you. But what is true is that we are fighting for your AR-15s. (8)

And it’s totally fake news that we are destroying your right to be informed by a free press. We aren’t doing anything like that at all; just tune into the next press conference held by Stephanie Grisham and see for yourself. Because over here we are going to overturn Roe (9)

because your insistence on pushing you personal religious beliefs are your right. And don’t look over there where these weak minded folks are saying catch phrases like “gerrymandering” and “foreign interference” and “voter suppression” because it’s not true; or at least it (10)

doesn’t affect you. Yet. Because we are over here, stopping the Libs from grabbing your guns.
And one day, when all the assistance programs are cut, and all the mid to low paying jobs are gone, and all your other freedoms and rights have been willingly ceded by you, (11)

because you believed anything the carnival barker said, and you are suddenly aware that you are the architect of your own fate, you are going to be mad. Not the mad you already are right now, the fake-indignant anger that “your country” is being ruined by the other side. (12)

No, it’s the anger you can only feel when you realize you were in fact the ones who really did destroy your freedoms, one right after another, both great and minor. And when you feel that anger, and find out you aren’t alone, and that anger spreads and begins to look like it (13)

will boil over, that is when they will come for your guns.
That is when whatever this thing is that the Republican Party has turned into will be on your doorstep, collecting your guns. This is right after they take control over who does and does not have abortions and why. (14)

You’ll vote them out next election; but the elections aren’t what they were anymore. You can go to court; but the courts aren’t impartial anymore. You’ll protest; but that’s illegal now and you don’t want to go to prison. Defeated, you’ll surrender your firearms. (15)

And you’ll, one last time, get to tell the libs that you were smarter than them because they did come for your guns. You were right all along.
You were right, but you had the wrong “they”.
