Lesser known, but the pro-redwood Quaker meets lumber baron saga the "Big Trees" is about early environmental law. And Quakers. Ok, it's a niche film. Maybe just me.
But if you're intrigued. QUAKER TREE LOVERS COME ON, it's in the public domain. Here you go:
I surely wish my childhood Meetings had been held in a sequoia grove.
However, the Douglas film I highly recommend is Ace in the Hole, directed by the great Billy Wilder, in which "Chuck Tatum (Kirk Douglas) is a fiercely ambitious, self-centered, newly sober reporter whose career has fallen into notoriety and decline."
Hollywood Reporter called it "ruthless and cynical...a distorted study of corruption and mob psychology that...is nothing more than a brazen, uncalled-for slap in the face of two respected and frequently effective American institutions - democratic government and the free press."
Since then, though, it's cynical eye has come to be well-regarded.
