Satellite image analysts, #OSINT researchers, journos. In the wake of the sudden loss of @Terraserver I’ve been testing alternative options for previewing sat images. Sharing my lessons so far. Please share yours & retweet!
Short background: For research into arms or human rights abuse through destruction of urban areas I need high-res (to compare structures) and regularly updated satellite images of remote regions. So, while public and good, Sentinel and Landsat services usually don’t work for this
eos.com/landviewer offers 10 free satellite image previews a day. Through the CBERS-4PAN5 sensor I can spot changes in this village that indicate burned area. Not high-res. Still, proved useful for other places where I can see areas have gone abandoned after reported attacks
Many of you #flighttracking used Terraserver to scan airbases. Perhaps you can still make sense of these plane models. But note that EOS Landviewer’s historical data options for the several military airbases I've checked are sad to non-existent.

planet.com/explorer Using the RapidEye tile, which seems to be the least bad. These photos helped me verify Google Earth Pro images, that a substantial event happened in this village and this date range. See the changes in the composition?
These planes seem a lot clearer 👍 The satellite imagery is not Terraserver quality, but frequency of photos is quite high(!)
The free trial period of Planet.com/explorer lasts 14 days.

Didn't work this one out completely as earthexplorer.usgs.gov has many steps and data sets not directly relevant but.. the preview window shows clear, undated imagery. Seems like date cannot be manipulated.
Plugin running on Leaflet API: leafletjs.com/plugins.html
Please share your experiences with other services too and keep this thread updated.
To me these are temporary solutions. Let's also find structural solutions and not have vital investigations falter 💪
No. 4👉 Useful high-res addition by @obretix: the World Imagery Wayback service livingatlas.arcgis.com/wayback Although "its timestamps [on the left] are inaccurate" and rather correspond to the date on which it was uploaded, not the day it was taken.
