Alright folks, here's a thread of some the tools that I use to get stuff done.

All these tools save me time AND they're a delight to use
For citations I use @zotero. The web browser plugins make it super easy to extract citation data from journal websites. Plus, it warns you if any papers in your library have been retracted! I don't know why I stuck with EndNote for so long...
For version control of my word documents both for myself and with my collaborators, I use @simuldocs
For collaboration I use Slack. I hate email. I almost never want to receive an email because they're generally a time-suck (anyone has my address) but I almost always look forward to slack messages because messages are always from my team and about stuff I'm excited about
For recording talks, screencasts, or skype conversations, I use Ecamm live. Here's an example
To keep track of my projects, I mainly use the Kanban board feature of @asana
To do quick calculations, I use @soulver
To bookmark and categorise interesting links I want to read later, I use @Pocket
For podcasts, I use @OvercastFM. Seriously, if you're using iOS there's simply no competition. It's got a feature called Voice Boost that makes every podcast sound better, and you can easily pull clips for sharing podcasts
To take photos from my phone that look exactly like scans, I use @scanbot. Comes in handy when it for dealing with travel reimbursements receipts
To make GIFs on my desktop I (like the GIF in the previous tweet) I use @gifbrewery and for GIFs on my phone I use @imgplay.

The best thing about @imgplay is that it can convert videos into GIF file sizes that are twitter-friendly
To take and annotate quick screenshots on my desktop and phone I use Skitch evernote.com/products/skitch
To get a quick simultaneous overview of timezones, I use Clocks app. Great for organising Skype meetings... apps.apple.com/us/app/clocks/…
For statistical inference and data visualisation I use #Rstats and @Rstudio. For quick and straightforward analysis, I use @JASPStats and @jamovistats
To make high-quality figures for my presentations and papers, like this one, I use @BioRender. They even made this nasal spray bottle icon on request!
And perhaps the most important app I use is Self Control, which can block distracting websites for a set period of time selfcontrolapp.com
This thread's blowing up, so I'm putting my own advice to good use so I can get some writing done.

I *was* going to post this tweet straight after I made the GIF, but I couldn't because I had just blocked twitter 🤦‍♂️
Here's a podcast interview I did last year, which includes a section on some of the tools I use to get stuff done
