Helle Thorning-Schmidt has 'stepped down' from the new UN panel on illicit financial flows, after Danish media revealed a series of companies and investments through secrecy jurisdictions
politiken.dk/indland/art764…
The UN has made a smart move here. Helle Thorning-Schmidt could have been allowed to continue as co-chair, and could even have made it a virtue if she had been willing to reflect publicly on the risks posed, and move to make them transparent - but without that, impossible.
Now there's a great chance before the panel begins, to establish a new co-chair who is fully committed to the project of addressing weaknesses of the global financial architecture, to ensure effective action against individual and corporate tax abuse, & other cross-border crime
