The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, Or Gustavus Vassa, The African, Written By Himself.

Olaudah Equiano (1745-1797)

An interesting observation: Olaudah Equiano came from the Kingdom of Benin. He observed both African and the race-based slavery of Europe.
He claims they were totally different. While eventually opposing all forms of slavery, the former slave does draw a clear ethical dichotomy between the slavery he grew up around in Africa versus the type he personally endured by Europeans.
This confirms @ayittey's research about African slavery being different, and rejects the egalitarizing of dissimilar things by colorblind white academics.

The ones trying to make slave crimes seem garden variety.

It wasn't. It was UNIQUELY barbaric in all of human history.
