Brexit campaigners often suggest UK trade twitter is too negative. Maybe. I'd argue it was mostly the way initiatives (Freeports, FTAs) don't reflect major policy questions (e.g. future of UK car industry, where will we trade instead of EU, which sectors, goods v services etc?)
My best guess of current UK trade policy is that doing something / anything will be good. And not worrying that much of this involves enshrining choices in law and / or treaty.

We can and should be doing a lot better than this.
I'm asked whether those in UK trade twitter are doing anything useful to develop a trade policy. Think majority of us are spending an awful lot of time with diverse stakeholders talking them through various issues. So yes, insofar as I can speak for a diverse bunch...
