spent 30m in the linkedin mines, stumbled out w keys to enlightenment.

* anyone who calls themselves a visionary, isn't
* anyone who says they do thought leadership, doesn't
* 'global' means 15 layers bureaucracy
* 'transformation' means 20yr behind
* 'innovation' is meaningless
I honest to god believed that "thought leadership" was something @samkottler made up to make fun of people for ... a long long time.
I stand corrected -- 'innovation' is actually more like punctuation.

I was just reading a book called "Swayed" -- great book btw -- and now I understand why business jargon is so maddening. It is the art of making concepts so vague as to be unobjectionable to everyone.
Specifics lead to conflicts and reactions and emotional attachment. Business HATES those things.

So they zoom way out and use words and metaphors that mean juuust shy of nothing, ones nobody can possibly disagree with. Except if nobody can disagree, you haven't said *shit*.
I have this problem sooooo much when I'm trying to interview for any kind of biz role. The good ones have all learned the art of the non-answer:

"How would you solve this thorny issue?"
"I would make sure all stakeholders were aligned and the process communicated"
"Ok but HOW"
"Well I don't want to boil the ocean so I would just leverage a relationships to make sure we have synergy"
😳 "How about a story? of a specific time you solved this?"
"Sure, I brought everyone to the table and communicated our needs cross functionally"
😮 oh ok.. cool.. 🥵
100% of the things I am interested in talking about in interviews are failures. The rest is just fluffing.

If you establish some trust, most engineers will happily go there with you. Biz folks are all but impermeable. Not sure if it's lack of trust, lack of practice, or fear.
