@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 1) In SWEDEN political parties has pursued the strategy to isolate the right-wing Swedish Democrats (SD), whose rise has made it impossible to create majority coalitions. The minority government had become normal. First Löfven Social Democratic-Green coalition in 2014
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 2) was sustained due to an agreement with opposition Alliance parties. Second Löfven Social Democratic-Green minority government is even weaker, but functioning. Early 2019 Löfven has secured parliamentary support from two opposition conservative parties.
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 3) The leader of the main conservative Moderate Party who was open to talk to Swedish Democrats was forced to resign – there was no consensus with regard to this policy in the Alliance block.
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 4) Result of the strategy: two left-green governments in a row, no SD influence in any form, but the lack of conservative balance in Sweden resulted in opinion polls from autumn 2019 where SD was the strongest party with 24% support.
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 5) In NORWAY after a loss of a red-green coalition in 2013 - Conservatives under Erna Solberg went into a minority government with right-wing Progress Party (FrP), supported by two smaller centrist/conservative parties in the parliament who didn’t want to cooperate with FrP.
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 6) FrP got 7 out of 19 ministers, including for finance and migration. Norway started to have a more restrictive immigration policy. After 2017 elections coalition remained in government, with Liberals and Christian Democrats joining later.
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 7) In January 2020 FrP went out of coalition over “ISIS widow” issue, but in fact due to shrinking support before 2021 elections. Result of Norwegian strategy: FrP got sort of normalized in the system, with diminishing public support.
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 8) In FINLAND right-wing Finns Party joined the centre-right Sipilä’s coalition (majority) government after 2015 elections. Finns Party got domesticated with foreign & defence minister posts. That caused a drastic drop in voter support and a split in the Finns Party.
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 9) Finns Party members in government stayed&created a Blue Reform party. The rest of Finns Party stayed in opposition. In 2019 elections Finns Party got as many votes as in 2015 (Blue Reform party seized to exist) &remained in opposition to the centre-left coalition governments.
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 10) Result of Finnish strategy: 'overdomestisation' leads to creating alternatives that become more powerful than before. Now Finns Party is enjoying highest support, & is criticizing others from a position of those who have never been in power.
@ConStelz @thorstenbenner @welt 11) With regard to DENMARK @PiotrSzyman will be best to explain domestic policy with regard to far-right.
