Here’s how I knew I was dealing with cult members in my own community:
• rigid
• impervious to facts and reason (climate change, guns).
• spewing falsehoods (9/11 terrorists came in through Canada, in fact NOT ONE did, Canadian healthcare “death panels,” late term abortions).

• hypersensitivity to criticism (“move back to Canada”).
• criticism resulted in smearing, discrediting, hostility and shunning.
• delusional beliefs “Obama is the devil.” “Poor people are lazy.”
• satisfaction from “us versus them” mentality.
• irrational fears

• automatic assumption of groupthink.
• use of psychological abuse tactics and logical fallacies such as:
- false equivalence
- moving the goalposts
- red herrings
- blame shifting
- deflection/diversions
- playing the victim
