We don't know what sentence Judge Jackson will give Roger Stone. But if it ends up being less than seven to nine years, it'll be because she was always planning to give him less than that, not because Trump/Barr interfered with the recommendation. It's just a RECOMMENDATION.
Trump and Barr are hoping that Judge Jackson was already planning to give Stone less than 7-9 years, and that Stone will naively think he got the shorter sentence because they changed the recommendation, so Stone won't seek revenge on Trump.
I don't think Roger Stone is that naive. But we'll see.

There's no more sure sign of someone's desperation than when they start routinely making high-risk, low-reward moves just to try to survive the day. Trump is now firmly at that point. So is Barr, who will also go to prison for a long time if Trump loses in November.
